Welcome to the official website of the West Coast Fishing Guides Association (WCFGA). Our organization was officially formed in March of 2011, out of a desire to connect fishing guides to effectively share information and speak with one unified voice on issues impacting our recreational fishery. We believe that a strong vibrant recreational fishery serves the best interests of our coastal communities by providing economic opportunity and creating positive family oriented recreation.
Our membership is committed to participating in various fisheries management consultative processes such as the Sport Fishing Advisory Board (SFAB) and the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC). We are members of the Sport Fishing Institute (SFI). Our intention is to contribute in a positive way to assisting in management decision making processes to the benefit of the recreational sport fishery in B.C. We will work to keep our members informed of key issues impacting their local fisheries, and explore ways we can encourage local communities to support the recreational fishery in order to build the fishery resource and economy of B.C.
We strongly believe that professional fishing guides offer a valuable service to the province of B.C., and will work to encourage members to adopt a high standard of professionalism.
The objectives of the WCFGA are:
I. To encourage and organize sport fishing guides with a view towards a better knowledge of fish guiding and the safe operation of boats and equipment in compliance with Transport Canada rules.
II. To increase the knowledge of members of the society regarding conservation and principles of good sportsmanship.
III. To actively cooperate in protection of our BC forests, soils, waters and natural habitat for game fish.
IV. To provide and offer instruction in fish guiding to members of the society to advance the general interests and objectives of the society.
V. To promote and protect the business enterprise of fish guiding and to better the interests of society membership.
VI. Proactively engage appropriate government agencies regarding issues affecting angling guiding.
The operation of the WCFGA is to be carried out chiefly in the Province of British Columbia. Our intention is to establish local area chapters, allowing guides to work together in a local area to address issues and advance those to a larger parent organization. This allows the WCFGA to surface key issues, and take action to speak with one voice. If you would like to become a member, please complete the membership form available on our web site and send it in. We encourage members, guides and recreational fishers to participate in our web Forum to exchange ideas and alert the WCFGA to key issues. We are also keenly interested in hearing from local fishing guides interested in starting their own local chapter of the WCFGA. Please feel free to connect with us and get involved. Together we can speak with one voice and make a difference!
